Our Update in 2024:

Evallies is on the move!

While we establish and create our new consulting suites, the doctors using our rooms will be offering telehealth appointments (online video appointments) alongside face-to-face appointments.

Unfortunately we are not accepting new referrals at this time.

Be sure to check out the ‘FAQs’ section of this website for answers to frequently asked questions.

Dr Robert Gillies only accepts referrals for people aged 16 to 50 years old at present. Dr. Gillies has a special interest in treating neurodevelopmental and related conditions (for example: autism, ADHD, tic/Tourette's conditions, OCD, binge eating, insomnia, and anxiety conditions). He is not currently accepting referrals for the treatment of addiction issues, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, anorexia nervosa, and major depressive disorder.

What your GP referral letter should include:

The referral letter should have:

  • Your personal demographic details and contact details

  • Presenting symptoms (reason for seeking an assessment and treatment)

  • An overview of your past: psychiatric, medical, surgical, substance use, legal, and medication history

  • Please book a “long consultation” with your GP when seeking a referral letter, so that your medical history can be explored in detail, and then described accurately in your referral letter

  • If a doctor discovers an issue that was not mentioned in your GP referral (e.g. substance use or a past history of an undisclosed psychiatric condition/treatment), they may not be able to help you, if the omitted information about you is outside their scope of nominated practice

Substance use (or prescribed THC) and ADHD assessments:

Substance misuse / alcohol dependence will render an ADHD assessment inaccurate, compromise treatment, and also pose legal barriers to prescribing ADHD treatment in Victoria. Generally speaking, it is recommended that all substance misuse and alcohol misuse be controlled for a period of at least 12 months prior to your ADHD assessment. If substance misuse, prescribed THC, or alcohol misuse is a current issue for you, please seek support from a drug and alcohol service (and please note that Evallies does not currently host any drug/alcohol workers).

Services that are currently provided:

Option 1: “Assessment and Management / Treatment & Care Ongoing”

  • The first appointment lasts 45 to 55 minutes and is for psychiatric assessment and diagnosis

  • If needed, one or more further appointments may be needed (e.g. for autism and/or ADHD assessment)

  • When the assessment is complete, an additional appointment will be scheduled to commence treatment

  • Psychiatrists do not provide crisis support or treatment in between scheduled appointments. Please call 000 in crisis.

  • Paperwork can be completed, time allowing, during treatment appointments (but not in between appointments)

Option 2: “One-Off 291 Assessment”

Please note, even if a “291 Assessment” is requested by your GP, a one-off appointment may not be feasible (if the psychiatrist determines that your psychiatric care cannot be safely delegated to your GP after one appointment).

  • If a 291 Assessment is deemed appropriate, the initial appointment will last 45 to 55 minutes

  • If needed, one or more further 45-55 minute appointments may be needed (e.g. for autism and/or ADHD diagnosis)

  • When the 291 Assessment is complete, a report with a diagnosis and recommendations is sent to your GP

  • After a 291 Assessment, your treatment will be provided by your referring GP and will not be provided by the assessing psychiatrist. You will not receive prescriptions or treatment from a psychiatrist during a “291 Assessment” appointment.

  • If you have had a “291” rebate in the previous 12 months (NB: not calendar year), you will not receive the 291 rebate
