Specialist in autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, child psychiatry, and OCD treatment.
Robbie developed a keen interest in psychology and biology during high school, and dreamt of one day becoming a psychiatrist. After graduating from high school, he enrolled into medical school at Monash University to pursue that dream.
During his University training, Robbie received several academic accolades. He was awarded a Scholarship to study medicine in Malaysia in 2011, and two years later received a John Murtagh First Wave Medical Scholarship. In 2014, Robbie travelled to New York City to complete a research Honours Degree in Medical Science (BMedSc Hons), at Manhattan’s Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then returned to Australia and finished his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, which was awarded with Honours (MBBS Hons). He was bestowed the Harry Hindlip-Green Prize for Medicine in his graduating cohort after excelling in his final year clinical examinations. He also graduated from Monash University with a Diploma of Philosophy, which he completed as a double degree with medicine.
Dr Gillies subsequently began working as a doctor at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. During his junior medical career he completed a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH&TM), and a Master of Psychiatric Medicine (MPM). Whilst working as a doctor, he also became employed as a lecturer of Medicine and Psychiatry through Monash University. He was also often an invited guest speaker at medical conferences, produced educational podcasts, published original scientific research in peer-reviewed medical journals, and presented his research findings at academic meetings.
Outside of professional work, Dr Gillies enjoyed contributing to community groups and projects. He played the Double Bass with the Australian Doctors Orchestra, sport with a number of amateur clubs (AFL and criciket), and volunteered for different charities. After volunteering regularly, Dr Gillies established a number of not-for-profit organisations, so that he could fundraise for causes he cared about. He is the proud Co-Founder of Dream Larger, Yarra Swim Co, Conscious Creative Ltd, Charity Tap, and HoMie.
At age 29, Dr Gillies received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his contributions to his community. His leadership has also been recognised with a Young Australian of the Year Award (for Victoria), Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship, JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World Award, Anthill’s Australian 30 Under 30 Award, Queen’s Young Leaders Award (Highly Commended), Victoria Day Council’s Young Victorian of the Year Award, and a James Cook University Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.

Dr Robert Gillies is a registered Medical Doctor (MBBS Hons) and Psychiatrist (FRANZCP) in Melbourne, Australia. He holds additional University qualifications including an Advanced Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Cert. Child Adol. Psych), a Master of Psychiatric Medicine (MPM), a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH&TM), a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours (BMedSc Hons), and Accredited Training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Diagnostic Assessments and Management. His training, clinical experience, and qualifications confer specialist expertise in treating people affected by a range of psychiatric conditions.
Dr Gillies completed his specialist psychiatry training over a five-year period at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Whilst employed at The Alfred Hospital he completed training rotations with the Alfred Hospital’s Adult Community Care Team, Child and Youth Mental Health Team, Adult Psychiatry Inpatient Team, Infant Mental Health Team, Albert Road Adolescent Inpatient Team, Hospital Consultation and Liaison Team, Neurodevelopmental Team, and a range of different Headspace Teams. He also provided fly-in psychiatric and medical support to remote Australian hospitals during his annual leave.
Since graduating as a specialist, Dr Gillies has practiced as an Inpatient Hospital Psychiatrist at The Melbourne Clinic (in Richmond, Victoria). In this role, Dr Gillies has previously provided inpatient (hospital-based) psychiatric care to people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He also founded Evallies, a company that provides administrative support and medical facilities to doctors who run their own practice. From his rooms, doctors are able to deliver care to their own patients. Dr. Gillies operates a private practice through Evallies rooms, and retains a special interest in treating ASD, ADHD, and OCD, as well as other common child and youth psychiatry conditions.
