The Autism Spectrum Rating Scale (ASRS)

The Autism Spectrum Rating Scale (ASRS) is a tool that healthcare professionals use to assess behaviours associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children.

The ASRS scale is easy-to-use and norm referenced. The ASRS was designed to effectively identify symptoms, behaviours, and associated features of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and adolescents aged 2 to 18, and links in with DSM-5.

The assessment is usually done through a questionnaire completed by the child's parent or caregiver and then discussed with the child’s healthcare provider.

The ASRS is designed to measure various behaviours related to ASD, including social communication, social interaction, and repetitive behaviours. The questionnaire consists of several items that ask about specific behaviours, such as whether the child makes eye contact, shows interest in other children, or engages in repetitive movements or routines.

The results of the ASRS can provide valuable information to healthcare professionals in diagnosing ASD and developing a treatment plan tailored to the child's specific needs. It can also be helpful in monitoring progress over time and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
