The Vineland 3

The Vineland-3 (VABS-3) is an assessment of adaptive functioning, which measures an individual's everyday living skills and independence.

The VABS-3 involves a person (or their parents and teachers) completing a questionnaire about their ability to perform tasks in various domains such as communication, daily living skills, socialisation, and motor skills. The responses to the questions will be used to determine the individual's adaptive functioning in a number of important life domains. The answers are then discussed during a face-to-face interview.

The information gathered from the Vineland-3 will provide a comprehensive overview of the person's abilities and strengths, as well as any areas where they may need support or intervention. The responses are scored, and a child’s abilities and functioning are then compared to the aggregate abilities of same-aged peers. This process enables a qualification and quantification of real-life needs of an individual, so that the right supports can be provided to promote their continued development.
